  • What is physiotherapy and how can I benefit?

    Physiotherapy is a medical, hands-on approach to relieving pain and restoring function. Physiotherapists are medical experts in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Our physiotherapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to eliminate it. Physiotherapy will also help anyone looking to improve their endurance, mobility and strength.

    While every patient’s condition and pain is unique, our physiotherapists will use a variety of gentle hands-on techniques, exercises, and equipment to relieve pain quickly and restore your function to optimum levels. These may include: manual therapy, exercises, acupuncture, ergonomic changes, breathing adjustments and posture techniques. Your physiotherapist will explain each option prior to administration and inform you of its benefits or harm.

    The overall goal is to restore pain-free mobility and function and to prevent the injury or pain from recurring.

  • Can I go to any physiotherapy I choose?

    As a patient you have the right to receive physiotherapy at any place you choose. At Concept of Movement Physiotherapy & Performance Wellness, you will receive the highest quality care while achieving the results you need.   • How do I schedule an appointment?

    Our scheduling is easy and we offer a convenient location and appointment times for you. We have morning and evening appointments available to meet the demands of your busy schedule. Call us today (705) 728-9333 or request an appointment.

  • What should I bring to my first appointment?

    To bring on your first visit:

    • A prescription (if needed) for physiotherapy from your referring physician or NP.
    • Insurance information (we will make a copy of your card).
    • Print out the patient forms, fill them out, and bring them with you.
    • Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork, so you can maximize your time in your assessment.
    • Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your problem areas.
    • Outdoor footwear must be removed at our entrance, it is advisable to bring your own indoor footwear if preferred.
    • Finally, bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and we’ll take care of the rest!
  • Will it hurt?

    Physiotherapy is not meant to hurt, but to relieve pain. However, as you restore your mobility, pain levels, at times can fluctuate. You might experience some temporary soreness from using muscles that are weakened or recovering. This is a normal response to therapy treatment. Good communication with your therapist will help minimize any discomfort. We want you on your way to quick pain relief and back to normal activities.

  • Does insurance cover my treatment?

    Yes, in most cases it does. Concept of Movement Physiotherapy & Performance Wellness will be happy to assist in contacting your insurance company and determining your coverage based on your individual policy.   • What do I wear?

    Dress comfortably with clothes that allow easy access for the therapist to examine your problem areas. For treatments, loose fitting clothes that are comfortable for gentle exercises are often good choices to wear.

  • How long will my therapy sessions last?

    Typically, the first session lasts for 1 hour 15 minutes. Each session after that may be 30 – 60 minutes. The amount of time will be based on your specific needs, and your therapist will discuss this with you.

  • How many sessions will I have?

    Each patient’s diagnosis is different, your therapist will develop an action plan of care that is right for you. Your plan of care and number of visits will be determined during your first visit and explained to you by our physiotherapist.

  • What types of education/training do your therapists have?

    Physiotherapists have years of university level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. Our physiotherapists have graduated from accredited physiotherapy programs with Master’s degrees and are provincially licensed. From there our Physiotherapists have additional advanced training specifically in orthopaedics and movement. Rest assured, your therapist is well trained to evaluate and treat your condition.

  • I’ve tried physiotherapy, massage therapy and anything else you can think of, but still can’t fix my symptoms. How are you different and why will it work?

    We focus on determining the foundation of your injury and then working to re-build it. Your symptoms may be persisting because the root cause has yet to be addressed. Treating the symptom may mask the pain, but it does not cure it. By learning about you and conducting a detailed assessment, we can discover the source of your condition.

    Our treatment approach is very unique. We focus on education and physical activity. We provide you with the tools to strengthen your body, change your posture, and improve your body mechanics. If you make the effort to instil these tools into your daily life, you will see some positive changes.

  • I don’t need treatment. The pain will just go away, won’t it?

    Sometimes, yes.But pain is your body’s way of telling you to really pay attention. And if you’ve been injured or have dysfunction, your body may adapt after awhile and you will be able to “ignore” the pain, temporarily. Rest assured, however, that untreated pain will return, and will often be worse than the first time. Best choice is to come see us first; a treatment can make the difference between a minor injury and a chronic one.

  • Do you offer programs for me once I’m better?

    Yes, once you have completed your therapy sessions, your therapist will review your continuing home program. We can make arrangements to work with you on determining what equipment may be beneficial, and what exercises would be helpful in your continued recovery.
